Dior Homme – A Subtle Masculine Fragrance By Christian Dior

Christian Dior is a very well-known name in fashion, but has also for many years been established in the world of fine fragrances. The fashion house released their groundbreaking masculine fragrance, Dior Homme, in 2005 and it was regarded as a masterpiece among many in the perfume industry.

The main theme of Dior Homme is the woody floral accord, something which is fairly unusual for a man’s aftershave or eau de toilette, because it’s built around tones traditionally reserved for feminine fragrances. However, it does work as a modern scent for men due to the sheer skill of its design. Even so, because perfumes are a very personal thing this particular fragrance is one that women could easily enjoy wearing.

It was designed by Olivier Polge, featuring a top note comprising lavender, sage and bergamot, which is very fleeting and lasts only a few minutes. Almost immediately this is followed by the powdery and sweet iris heart note, which eventually develops seamlessly into a leather drydown, mixed with Haitian vetiver and Indonesian patchouli.

The flowery transitions from lavender to iris to vetiver are very much associated with women’s perfume, but Dior Homme cleverly infuses warm amber right into the heart which shifts the scent into more masculine territory. Nevertheless, it is far less brash than many of the masculines currently on the market. This scent is ideal for both day use and for evening wear and despite being subtle, actually is fairly long-lived. But don’t let its longevity put you off, as this fragrance has a very low sillage, which means that you don’t leave a thick cloud of it behind yourself wherever you go. It sticks quite close to your skin, and therefore will not overpower everybody at work.

Everything about this men’s fragrance screams quality of design, both in the complexity of the perfume itself, but also on its unique bottle design. Dior Homme by Christian Dior has established itself as one of the top 10 masculines over the last few years and is highly recommended.
