If the Shoe Fits, Then Perform
Performing on stage is an ability that not everyone has. It takes a lot of guts to be able to act in front of an audience, be it large or small. To remember all your lines and be able to deliver them with the proper timing and emotion is a task that is not that easy to accomplish, although accomplished actors would make you believe that it is so. Their seemingly seamless performances make sure of that. In order to achieve such great heights of performing up on the stage, there is great deal of preparation involved, with everything from brushing up on one’s acting or even singing, to memorizing your lines, and properly interacting with your co-performers. That’s just a lot to deal with, but performers somehow manage to accomplish it time and time again.
Then there are those other things that performers need to worry about, like the clothes that they need to wear, and other props that could impact their performance positively or negatively. A dress or might not right for the character or the cast’s clothing might not be appropriate for the time and place that the story is set; it might be a period piece. Those are just some of the things that have to be considered. And also included in those items are the shoes that the performers wear. It is called character shoes, and it is different from your ordinary footwear.
The basic difference of a character shoe from an ordinary one is in its design. Character shoes are purposefully made to be very simple, so as not to attract too much attention during the performance. The actors need to have the attention of the audience focused on them that is why the shoes need to be quite simple. The best character shoes are thus the simplest ones. If you are an actor or actress, or even a singer or dancer, one of your biggest worries about your footwear would have to be how should your character shoes fit and not much else.
