Different Types of Dog Pens

There are a large variety of dog pens available to buy for your pet. The use to which it will be put will determine which type of pen you should buy.

An indoor dog pen is most suited to a young dog. The advantage of these pens is that your new puppy can spend time in his new home, with his new family, without having the temptation of all those slippers, children’s toys and random objects which we leave lying around, to chew. The pen keeps him secure while you train him how to behave in a social manner and it can also be used as an aid to house training.

There are several different types of indoor pen. One is a metal cage like structure which is made from lightweight material and can be folded down when not in use. These can be easily moved around and can also double up as room dividers or door barriers. The disadvantage of these is that they can be quite large and, if your dog isn’t going to spend much time in it, rather a waste of space. In this case you might want to try a much smaller, collapsible pen with nylon walls and floor and a mesh roof to stop your dog from jumping out.

Once your dog is fully grown then he will move to an outdoor dog exercise pen. These are generally either of chain link or modular steel panel composition. The chain link variety are easier to construct and lighter, allowing movement even after they have been put up, while the modular are heavy, more permanent structures which will last you much longer. By putting a dog kennel into this pen you can provide your pet with his own personal ‘den like’ space in which to play and rest.
