What is Credit Monitoring and Why Do You Need It?

Are you fearful that you could get scammed some day. Well when I tell you’re closer than you think it time to start considering how you can be prepared for this and one way to do this is by looking into a credit monitoring service and in this article I’m going to show you what credit monitoring is and where to get it.

What Is Credit Monitoring

First off, credit monitoring is the process of allowing a company or organization to watch over your credit and alert you in the instant someone is trying manipulate it.

These companies will usually inform you via email or text alerts and will stop people from opening new accounts in your name to missing a payment with your bills. In the end the goal is to protect your credit and identity.

Where To Get Credit Monitoring

When it comes to getting credit monitoring you have two options. The first option is the free option and one of the best place to get a free credit monitoring service is with Credit Karma.com.

This site will do all the normal things other credit monitoring services do but at no cost to you. So if someone is trying open a credit card in your name Credit Karma will send you an alert immediately to let you know.

However their is one down side to this service and that is with Credit Karma they will only alert you of suspicious activities but they won’t do anything about it. That part is up to you to take care of and if you don’t know what to do it could be costly.

The second option is to consider a paid program such as Life Lock. With life lock they again do everything that Credit Karma does but on top of that they will work with you to restore and fix your credit issues up to $1,000,000.

In fact this program is very inexpensive as well, only running around $10 for the basic program. On top of that they will also work to eliminate junk mail and protect your identity online.

Final Thoughts…

As a final thought just because you have either a paid service or the free one doesn’t mean you still are not susceptible to getting hit by a scam. In fact I’ve seen people get their email hacked to people getting their credit numbers stolen at a Walmart. The point is you can still get scammed so take a defensive approach when it comes to your credit and identity and you will be able to avoid most scams.
